Hello. We like to collect well-designed vintage pottery (and lots of other stuff) from the 1950s,
'60s and '70s. Here are some pictures and info of a selection of the things we've found.

Kitty number two. The Hornsea Marion Campbell cat.

Kitty number two.

Again a stylised cat with an elongated neck and nicely painted features.

This time, I can give some background information. This cat (is it a Siamese?) was designed by Marion Campbell for Hornsea Pottery. It was made in 1961 or 1962 and is one of a set of five similar cats in different sizes. This version is the second-largest of the series and is about seven and a half inches (19cm) high.

Aren't those exaggerated cat eyes fabulous?

  1. Hello,

I've just started collecting hornsea pottery, so just learning. I have this model of the siamese cat too, as well as a little one. They're not marked on the bottom. Is this normal?
I think their eyes are adorable...can't wait to get the set!

    1. Hello, It's nice to hear from a new Hornsea pottery collector. The cats were not marked Hornsea on the base. These cats are getting quite rare now so you're lucky to start your collection with two of them. Let us know when you have a full set.

  2. How much did you pay for it out of interest? I have been eyeing them up for a while! Very pretty!

    1. Hello, Well, as with most of the Potshots collection, I didn't pay much at all. These cats are one of the few Hornsea items that are not marked (same with some of the cruet sets too). There is no way of identifying them as Hornsea unless you happen to know what they are. Therefore, you sometimes find sellers at boot fairs etc who regard them as just another cat ornament, and why they are often overlooked by 'the dealers' who are looking for marked items. And that's how I came to find this one for £1 at a local boot fair. So keep your eyes open, you never know.

  3. I have the full set of cats which I found at an auction. I love them and didn't pay much. I have also found a small black foal, black polar bear and black cat which I believe are also by Marion Campbell too
